Raymond G. Slaidins: Artist, Designer and Architect
My paintings today are done mainly with acrylic paint. Earlier I was using oil paints, but today I find the oil drying process too slow, since now I often finish my work in one or two sessions. For special effects though I may mix acrylic with oil or with watercolor. I do not feel controlled by some classical rulebook, and I often use whatever medium gives the desired effect. Therefore some of my paintings could be defined as “mixed media”. Very often for textures I use scraps of paper or other pasteable material that can be used in “collage” manner. In order to achieve a certain “looseness” I may even add pastel, pencil or marker strokes to my painting surface. Sometimes I also like the casual “dripping” of brush strokes. Finished effect is what I care for, not the method.
